The story of this beauty named Hope begins—at least for us—when her photo was shared on social media. She had been hit by a car, her leg was broken, but the main concern seemed to be that she had nowhere to go after receiving medical care. The people who found her were urgently asking for help. We answered the call, and… Hope became “our cat” ❤️.
She was immediately hospitalized. Her leg was so severely damaged that the best option was amputation, but otherwise, she seemed to be in good health. Sweet and affectionate, she was friendly and eager for love. Hope successfully underwent surgery, and her recovery began in the home of one of our volunteers. It wasn’t easy, especially for our beloved Hope, who had to adapt to her new reality—but she did so, as animals always do, without self-pity. They are truly incredible beings, something we’ve always known!
However, harder than the recovery was her adjustment to life at the shelter once she had fully healed. Seeing so many other cats around her left Hope visibly depressed and often angry. We reserved a small room for her so she could see the other cats through a window at first, but she insisted on having nothing to do with them. Whenever we allowed a few of the friendlier cats into her room, she would cry out loudly, as if scared, upset, or truly annoyed at having her “territory” invaded. We took things even slower, giving her more time before reintroducing her to the other cats. Eventually, she adjusted, and now she even ventures into the enclosure at the far end of the room where she used to feel safe. Yes, she still grumbles when she sees cats gathering around her, but at least she tolerates them now. We’re sure that with more time, things will improve further. But we hope that before then, Hope will find her dream home—a place full of… people! Oh yes, people—she adores them!
When it comes to humans, Hope is the most loving and loyal cat you could ever meet. All she wants is their attention, love, and to follow them everywhere. She especially loves the kitchen, probably because she knows not all cats can follow her there, so she can eat in peace. She has a big appetite but only when she’s with us, where she feels safe and knows she’ll get all the cuddles she desires. Hope is truly a “people’s cat,” longing for love and attention more than anything else. As wonderful as that sounds, it’s heartbreaking to see her in the shelter, knowing we can’t give her what her heart desires most. It’s impossible with so much going on, caring for 50 other cats. Even a special cat like Hope has to wait her turn, and it makes her unhappy. The ideal home for her would be one where she’s the only cat. Still, with time and patience, she might accept one or two other cats, as long as she feels she’s receiving enough love and attention.
Beyond that, there’s another challenge that has drastically reduced Hope’s chances of being adopted: she’s been diagnosed with asthma. It’s a mild form but needs to be managed. What does that mean? She needs daily medication—a “puff” that she inhales without any fuss. She’s such a good girl! She will also need regular vet visits to monitor her condition. Unfortunately, this makes her less appealing to most adopters, and we know finding someone willing to take on this responsibility is like searching for a needle in a haystack. But we owe it to Hope to try! Don’t get us wrong—she rarely coughs, she can run and jump like any other cat, and if it weren’t for an attentive and skilled vet, we probably wouldn’t have known about her asthma for a long time. But it’s there, even in its early stage, and a long, happy life is only possible if it’s kept under control. We’re more than willing to do this for the rest of her life because we love her deeply. But she would be so much happier with a loving home and family of her own. It’s even possible that in a healthier, calmer environment, she might improve and not need medication anymore—though, of course, this can’t be guaranteed.
So here we are, trying to find that special person or family willing to open their hearts and home to a three-legged beauty named Hope. Our wonderful Hope, who hops around like a little goat, who wants nothing more than to give all her love to someone who chooses her, who will greet her family at the door when they come home, but who has early-stage asthma and… only three legs. We wonder: could Hope’s dreams come true? We don’t know, but we owe it to our princess to try.
