Leo

I was born on: 1 August 2023

I’ve been here since: March 2024

I like: stealing wet food pouches

I dislike: if you don’t let me everywhere I want

Found my forever home: not yet…

We do not know much about Leo’s beginning in life. Truth is, we didn’t even want to ask or to have anything to do with the person who wrote to us, we just wanted to take the boy away from him, fast. There was something about the e-mail we received, a feeling of danger coming through, that we feared the kitten would end up on the streets. Not a young kitten, but a very young cat still whom apparently the foreign student who contacted us could not keep due to… allergy. It was very hurtful to see how badly he wanted to get rid of Leo, answering shortly every question we did ask – about vaccinations, for example, but adding to his e-mail the same question: where could I take him? We answered fast: to the vet’s.

Leo had the right age for neutering, around 7 months of age, so we started with that before coming to the shelter. He stayed at the clinic for some days and then he came… He was unbelievably skinny and very very hungry. The vets also told us that he was definitely not fed properly but otherwise, he was a healthy boy. He was even growling if you got near his food, just to let you know he just has to be left alone to eat. Sometimes, he does this even now, making sure everyone knows that’s his food, even if he does nothing if you try to take it away. It took weeks until his appetite “calmed down” a bit and he began to put on some weight, to look like a normal cat, even more than that a bit, because he is taller than other cats, with longer legs, a truly hansdome bg boy by now. His character though, that relaxed personality of his, that did not change.

Right from the beginning he was a friendly guy, curious and sweet. He likes to wrestle to this day with your arm, if you show him “the claw” :)) and he does not give up easily. We tried to teach him to be gentler and he seems to get the point, that this wrestling may “hurt” at times. Well, he does not leave marks, don’t get us wrong, but while playing he can get carried away and “bite” a little harder than usual. We do not mind because we just love how much he enjoys this game, it’s his favourite! He also likes to play with cats, with us, we are under the impression that it is only now that he enjoys real kittenhood, that being a kitten was somehow not allowed until he came to us. Maybe this was the problem, that he was too energetic for his former owner, although his behaviour is nothing special for a young cat. They are just happy to be alive, healthy and safe!

One thing remained still from his cloudier days: his appetite. He is not as desperate as he was, not even by far, but Leo still loves his own stomach. Sometimes, when they are starved, it takes a long time for many cats to forget probably and they seem to be guided by one thing only: eat what you can today, because tomorrow you never know what comes. Therefore, he is following us to the kitchen, insisting to be fed among the first cats – and then comes back for more. We are happy to see him eat properly and we are even happier when we see he’s content with the menu and serving :))

Now this Leo of ours is searching for a new home, a better one. He wants to be taken care of, cuddled, spoiled, he wants to play and to spend his energy with a loving family, by whose side he can then rest and sleep peacefully, when “the hard day” of a cat is over . He is an amazing boy, friendly, playful, jolly, relaxed, who just wants to enjoy everything life and people can offer him. In return for the love you’d give, the care and the food of course, the safety you’d provide to this boy, you’d have to be prepared to receive ten times the love, lots of laughter and joy and, if you just want to be more than perfect for our guy, then our request would be: don’t forget about the wrestling from time to time, you would make him the happiest cat on Earth!

Adopting a cat from our shelter can only be done through an adoption contract. Why? Because we care! The conditions imposed by the Friends of Cats Association are easy to meet when the person who wants to adopt is a responsible human being and really loves cats.

Thank you!
